Alzheimer's / Dementia Care at Brompton Heights Assisted Living Residence
An Interview with Mark Hamister
What differentiates Memory Care from Assisted Living?
Our Memory Care Residence is limited to 20 individuals. Its small, home-like setting helps people to adapt easily. It has its own quiet Dining Room where residents are offered increased dining flexibility. Recreational programs are designed to stimulate and nurture residents with memory disorders. Our outdoor courtyard enables residents to enjoy our beautiful natural surroundings without fear of wandering. We also provide supervised excursions to Brompton’s Movie Theatre, Ice Cream Parlor, and parties.
How does Memory Care benefit the residence as a whole?
The addition of Memory Care provides increased opportunities to age in place. When the needs of Assisted Living residents become more complex, they do not necessarily have to move to another facility, just to another area of the building.

I'm writing on behalf of our clients at your facility, the ones who have benefitted from the attention and care of Eric Venator, PCA, and Dana Manzella, Admissions Director. It's clear they put their best effort into trying to meet residents' needs and that means everything. To us, a qualified staff makes the difference between a place we'd recommend and a place we would not.
On several occasions, I've witnessed Eric's interaction with residents and been impressed. This morning, while visiting clients in the memory care unit, Eric skillfully calmed an angry woman. He let her talk and be heard, and was not at all patronizing in his manner. From what I know of him, he appears very mature, extremely person-focused and highly dedicated to his work.
I once brought a gentleman to see Brompton and Eric was adept enough to recognize the man's anxiety around not knowing anyone. He took time and care to use his name, introduce him to people, and spent time talking with us. My client left with a very favorable impression and ended up picking Brompton for his new home.
Caregivers like Mr. Venator are the greatest resource in our field. You can be sure that one of the reasons we tell our clients and their families about Brompton Heights is because of people like him and Dana Manzella. Dana is similarly attentive to people. She treats them with an unparalleled amount of dignity in every interaction she has. Her work greatly influences our clients; she creates a feeling of safety for them and if they choose Brompton, it's largely because of her.
Dana often has several people needing things from her at the same time, but she never loses her cool and leaves all parties feeling well attended to. This is no small task. Even working at full throttle, she remains remarkably genuine, immensely considerate, and impressively flexible. We enjoy working with Dana and are confident recommending your facility because of her. |
